Einick Gitelman was a remarkable man, who left a huge imprint during his memorable life.
He treated a stranger as a friend and a friend as a best friend. A man of many traits and willing to help anyone in need; he was most happy when given the opportunity to aid someone. His smile and love of life that he shared with everyone he encountered has left us precious memories.
Einick started playing in NDG Minor hockey at the young age of five in pre-novice, continuing right through to the Hurricanes Midget BB. His love for hockey was rooted in him and he continued playing hockey and coaching throughout his short adult life.
About our Mission
It’s well known that Canada’s favourite pastime also happens to be one of the most expensive. The high costs associated with playing hockey deny many Canadian children the opportunity to play the sport. Despite our love for the game and the amazing benefits it provides, playing hockey remains a high-priced pastime. Statistics reveal that as much as 1 in 3 Canadian families can’t afford to enroll their children into organized sports, mostly due to the constantly rising costs of equipment and annual registration fees, averaging about $1,500 a year. At the Einick Gitelman Fund, we aim to help change that by financially supporting local families, who due to economic difficulties can’t afford to pay the costs associated with playing organized hockey.
In Einick's memory the Gitelman family and his amazing circle of friends have organized the 1st annual Einick Gitelman Hockey Tournament. We have since organized a festival in the park, also our 2nd annual hockey tournament. We plan to organize more events with your help.
The object is to raise funds for NDG Minor Hockey in order to help boys / girls who cannot afford hockey equipment or fees to play hockey: the sport that Einick so loved. Thanks to your donations and the funds raised during our events, we'll help more children get on the ice this year.
